David Lean’s “Bridge on the River Kwai” is one of my current movies of all time, and one one the greatest war movies of all time, but a differnt war movie. Can the civilized Colonel Nichoson (brilliantly played by Alec Guinness and won him an Academy Award for best actor) defy the brutal Japanese Colonel Saito(Sessue Hayakawa, also bright) and collect the war of wills? At first we believe he won’t but the dwelling takes a uncommon turn and this Nicholson turns out to be as fanatic as Saito is in the prison camp. Beautifully shot in Ceylon(Sri Lanka) serving well for Burma by Freddie Young, Lean’s mammoth photographer also for “Lawrence of Arabia” the viewer can feel the heat and humidity, view the starving appearance of the prisoners, who commence buiding the bridge as a lark until Nicholson wins his points of honor and they work harder than ever. My approved line in the movie is one of Colonel Saito’s popular sayings: “Be ecstatic in your work,” which takes on more and more irony as the film and legend unfolds. There is a side state, with William Holden barely escaping, only to be brought benefit support with hard-core commandoes(led by demolitions expert Jack Hawkins) to the camp to blow up the bridge. This is a fantastic psychological and subtle war film, with unbiased enough adventure and action to balance its war of words, over the Geneva Covention(Nicholson keeps a copy of it in his pocket and then is slapped with it by Saito) over points of British stiff upper lip and Japanese warrior code,Bushido, two vastly different viewpoints but in the demolish breed fanatics. The acting, editing, writing, and photography are all flawless. This is one of the few war movies made forty ago that collected unpleasant with any today. A apt masterpiece, powerful imitated. Lean is a director of set and attends to all the limited details, from the ratty prisoner uniforms,a Japanese sentry standing guard in the heavy rainfall, and the haunting whistling of the entire stale British company, marching tired and disease-infested into a current camp fair after Holden has been digging graves. And the camp doctor, well-played by James Donald, saying “Madness! Madness! after watching the bridge being blown while a dispute crosses over. A honest classic of any genre. The restored version is suited and again, since I saw this movie on a vast hide, sight it if you can at the theater, even if you occupy this video. It is that superb.

The release of David Lean’s remarkable, incandescent and conception provoking anti-war masterpiece on widescreen DVD accompanied by the added bonus documentary “The Making of the Bridge on the River Kwai”, along with other featurette’s, theatrical trailers and an appreciation of the film by famed director, John Milius, is indeed a cause for celebration amongst cinema afficiando’s of this most apt of motion pictures.

The powerful unique by Pierre Boulle (also author of “Monkey Planet”…filmed as the memorable “Planet of the Apes”) is masterfully brought to the shroud by director David Lean, a just genius gradual many historical epics.

Deep inside snake ridden Asian jungles, British and American prisoners of war toil under the sweltering tropical sun working on section of the base Burma railway that claimed thousands of Allied lives during WWII. Colonel Saito (talented Japanese actor Sessue Hayakawa) presides over his POW camp with an iron rule…driving his Japanese troops as hard as his malnourished prisoners. Enter the salubrious and steadfast English POW, Colonel Nicholson (Alec Guiness in an Oscar winning performance) refusing to capitulate to Saito’s demands that British officers obtain manual labour alongside enlisted men. Each man’s blind adherance to their occupy personal code of honor sees the two men fall into a psychological war of will, bravado and courage…each certain not to waver from their personal beliefs.

As these two leaders clash with each other, American prisoner of war and resident camp gravedigger, Shears (William Holden) effects on elope from the brutal prison camp and after nearing death, he makes his plan benefit to the Allied forces. Unfortunately for the disturbed Shears, he is coerced to guide a suicidal commando mission with Major Warden (Jack Hawkins) and Lieutenant Joyce (Geoffrey Horne) to return to the enemy infested jungles and blow up the railway bridge being built by Nicholson and the British prisoners of war.

Each differing path taken by Nicholson, Saito & Shears eventually intertwines and ultimately sees the three men confront their believe inner fears and beliefs with tragic circumstances….

Seven Oscars hold testament to the astounding attributes of this movie….including Best Report and Best Actor…plus “Kwai” is regularly listed by critics as one of the most influential and highly regarded movies of the 20th century. The Rainmaker 2.35:1/Dolby Digital 5.1 Paramount Pictures

The first adaptation of a John Grisham anecdote that I’ve really enjoyed, “The Rainmaker”, directed by Francis Ford Coppola, looks at the life of a terrible young Southern lawer, Rudy Baylor(Matt Damon, in a large performance) as he battles against an insurance company and it’s staff of lawers(led by Jon Voight) .

Baylor is battling for Donny Ray Dim, a young man who’s insurance claims have been turned down time and time again; Kelly Riker(Claire Danes), who lives in continuing terror of her abusive husband and Miss Birdie, an older woman who simply wants to maintain her money from her greedy offspring.

This is really the best of the Grisham adaptations and I’m fairly distinct it’s the hand of director Coppola that has it rising above the rest; the film is crowd-pleasing obvious, but it’s also very sparkling and very well acted, with a lot of rich dialogue and some very enthralling and exciting characters. Danny Devito, as Damon’s succor, has a lot of fun in a sizable performance; like in “LA Confidential”, we’re seeing Devito as his absolute peak lately. He’s been picking bigger and especially, noteworthy better roles lately. Matt Damon’s first major performance in this film is also very well done, yet another in his line of subtle, unbelievable performances along with “Courage Under Fire” and “Righteous Will Hunting.” Worthy like Damon’s last film “Rounders”, I also plan his narration in this film was well done and well written(by Michael Herr)

Overall, it’s an friendly film, well directed, acted and written. It’s a well-told memoir by Ford Coppola and it’s highly intriguing. “The Rainmaker” was one of my picks for the top 10 films of 1997.

The DVD: Picture: Well, where there’s pleasant, there’s also terrible. It’s unhappy that Paramount did an unsatisfactory job with this disc. Colors are not terribly well defined or vibrant; difference is only fair; the whole disc looks, to my eyes, like an “okay” laserdisc would. There is definitely a noticeable amount of pixelization and some colorful. It makes a point I was talking about with another person a couple of weeks ago all the more apparent to me. I said, “the best DVD material will absolutely blow your mind; at worst, it’ll do you shrug your shoulders and say, ‘well, that’s sort of okay’ “. “The Rainmaker” simply made me shrug my shoulders in dissapointment. It’s probably the least impressive record transfer in my collection of discs, and that’s too terrible since this is really a gargantuan film that deserves a substantial disc. In a time where Tristar is making discs that see as well-behaved as “Godzilla”, there’s no excuse for a film that’s not terribly primitive like “The Rainmaker” to discover like this. It looked this plot on my Panasonic A110. Hopefully, although I highly doubt it, people will have better luck on other players.

Audio:Pretty noble. It’s definitely a dialogue film, backed by a nice, subtle gather. Both are well recorded and superb to listen to. Nothing terribly mind-blowing. Again, the annoying pickle is smooth there; you can not switch the audio during the film, only from the menu. Try during the film and you’re out of luck.

Menus: Very aged. The narrate on the front of the box with some simplistic bordering and great, listless buttons.

Extras:Nothing. No 16×9, No Trailer, Not A Thing. Absolutely zero.

Overall: It’s a ample film and if you liked the film as considerable as I did, it’s worth a steal at some of the very shameful prices found on the internet, but after watching this disc, I would *definitely* not pay chubby ticket for it. If you’re considering it, I’d highly suggest a rental first, unless you like the movie itself as worthy as I did.

Film:**** Picture:* 1/2 Audio:** 1/2 Extras:Zero Menus:Zero

Overall Disc Quality:**

Matt Damon was a relative unknown when he was tapped to play the hero of “The Rainmaker”, based on a unusual by John Grisham & directed by Francis Ford Coppola. It was a twist of fate that launched Damon’s career and definitely lifted this movie. (Ironically, Matthew McConaughey got his inaugurate the same way- being an unknown cast in a movie based on a Grisham recent.)

The area is a classic David-vs-Goliath story- modern out of law school Matt Damon sues an insurance company for denying treatment to a family with cancer. Ultimately Damon triumphs- the proper cause succees and the system works. Damon is a major talent, as evidenced by his performance in this film. He’s terrified, unsure of himself, but basically a superb person committed to doing what’s true.

I wasn’t too impressed by the rest of the cast- Claire Danes is a talented actress but fails to shine here. Danny DeVito is okay as Damon’s law partner, and Jon Voight comes across as a none-too-interesting arrogant villain. The rest of the cast? Nobody stands out- this is Damon’s prove.

What impressed me about “The Rainmaker” was its hard, unflinching portrayal of the right profession. A lawyer’s life is not glamorous and does not necessarily guarantee a vast paycheck. Those lickety-split to criticize lawyers ought to acquire some law courses before they inaugurate their mouths- the road to becoming a lawyer is rough and a noteworthy commitment of both your time and financial resources. Despite his law degree, Damon’s financial characterize at the beginning of the film is decidedly precarious.

Watch “The Rainmaker” along with “A Civil Action” and “Erin Brockovich” to pick up a aesthetic favorable view about the blueprint the law works & how courts give the shrimp people an avenue to even up with enormous shots like corporations and insurance companies. Gaze this movie in particular to view a terrific performance from Matt Damon.

After the success of “Amelie,” the Hollywood marketing machine is in desperate search of the next gargantuan foreign romantic comedy and likewise misleads the public by packaging every movie to approach out of France as the sequel to “Amelie.” “Fancy Me if You Dare” is very distinguished a romantic Murky comedy, a fact that will likely turn off viewers who approach in strictly with an “Amelie” mindset. Don’t, and I judge you’ll really enjoy what THIS movie has to offer, which is a charm all its enjoy. For those of you unsure of what to inquire of from a romantic murky comedy, consider “Secretary” but without the S&M.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Love Me If You Dare! Click Here

I was really pleasantly surprised by this movie because I loved “Amelie” and hated “Secretary,” yet I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. The fable of two people so obviously in treasure with each other yet so sinister for each other turns the romantic comedy archetype on its head. And it’s not unprejudiced the typical “he/she is from the injurious side of the tracks” storyline although that plays a allotment. There are SO many reasons why Sophie and Julien should not be together, so powerful so that in any other movie you would destroy up hating one or both characters, but you can’t serve but like and want them to be together. It’s so cheesy to say “Oh, they’re soulmates” but they are and it’s not a smart, stunning package. I adore how this movie explores that thought because it shows everything that goes along with treasure – jealously, arouse, bitterness, passion, and even hatred. It’s messy and it can be sunless, but it’s also the most exhilarating, undiminished thing in your life.

Don’t be turned off by my review – it’s not all shadowy. There are enough moments of whimsy to satisfy the most avid “Amelie”-lover out there. Some moments will accomplish you laugh out loud. And some moments will do you blanch. But it’s care for in all its guts and glory. “Savor Me if You Dare” adds some grand needed edginess and originality to the new stream of banal and redundant romantic comedies. “Amelie” was unbelievable but give this movie the chance it deserves.

I have only seen this movie in French while I was in France and I loved it! There are so many twists and turns in the movie that it keeps you wondering what will happen next. It also has an fantastic savor epic tantalizing the two main characters, who you will descend in like with. They have amazing on-screen chemistry. The ending is one that you will argue what you believe it meant with others. I cherish this movie and am pre-ordering it.

[*]Simpsons Astronomical Tales: 4.5/5

This episode features 3 immense tales – Paul Bunyan, Connie Appleseed, and Tom and Huck. While I didn’t particularly care for Paul Bunyan, Tom and Huck was okay, and Connie Appleseed was very comic.

The Simpsons: The Complete Twelfth Season is one HELL of a season – completely underrated – and, in my conception, better than seasons 11 and 10, and even 9 and 8. The bonus features are alright, as usual. 24 minutes of deleted scenes on the fourth disc, best Comical Book Guy moments from up until 2001, Butterfinger commercials and a Red Rooster one from 2000/2001, and a Simpsons Fanfest from 200…1 I judge? And, as always, there is also commentary on every episode.

As far as the boxing is concerned, Season 12 is a bit better than eleven. The discs are easier to earn out of the box, and the material sleeve that the discs go in is a slight more scratch resistant. The Funny Book Guy head you search for on the box, as with season eleven, can be taken off. There is only bit of that peely-glue stuff to prefer off.

Overall, as I said, this is a mountainous season, and is probably my current season since season 7, or maybe 8… I’m probably one of VERY few to say this, but I unprejudiced really thoroughly enjoyed most of this season. It started wearisome, but it really got going, and the Simpsons Gargantuan Tales and Trilogy of Error episodes were a stout runt change. I really recommend this season.

4.5/5

Pros: Several awesome episodes, I counted 11 “epicsodes” out of 21 episodes… that is a really pleasant ratio. Also some dazzling frigid bonus features.

Cons: The box, while slightly improved, is detached attractive subpar. The first disc for the most section doesn’t have very favorable episodes… that’s really about it.

And now we wait for season 13…

I know I am not alone when it comes to the contrivance season 11 and probably season 12 will be packaged. In those almost immpossible sleeves the discs are crammed into. Once out of that tight fitting slot, fair expend some of those two sided sleeves or envelopes you fetch at office depot. They fit support in between the accordian type booklet unprejudiced graceful. It’s a speedy vulgar cost solution to the plight. Impartial concept i’d portion that with everybody.

I was a stout fan of Chandler as a boy in the 1950’s. My personal favorites of his from then and as an adult are Pillars of the Sky and Yankee Pasha. As always with older films, you have to achieve them in the context of the time in which they were made as far as style, realism, etc. Own me, this guy was dazzling to the ladies and a man’s man to the guys….tons of on cloak magnetism.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Away All Boats! Click Here

The main thing I want to add about both Chandler and this movie is my experience watching this film as a Navy officer aboard a ship of the very same type during the Viet Nam era. The title of the film refers to the fact that the ship (the Belinda, as I seize) was an amphibious cargo ship, one which carries marine vehicles, anchors off the sail, lowers boats (“away all boats”) into the water and drops the vehicles into the boats for the whisk to the beach with U.S Marines who drive them ashore and onward. In the officers’ wardroom aboard the USS El Paso in the early ’70’s, we watched this movie multiple times and loved it as well done and realistic.

We did net some tall chuckles out of the casting comparing actors like Richard Boone (“Have Gun Will Depart”) playing, I assume, the First Lieutenant, and Lex Barker (Tarzan) as the Executive Officer and comparing these guys to our absorb counterparts. We all view the film was “Navy” all the plan, however. I’m not distinct if these amphibious cargo ships are collected in operation, but they were dilapidated through the first Gulf War.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Away All Boats! Click Here

This movie is realistic and an legal depiction of a U.S.Navy amphibious ship during wartime. Chandler is certainly the main man in the fable but does not dominate to quite the same extent as in some of his other films. He is estimable in the role, however, and this is an authentic depiction of Navy life and a trustworthy epic.

AWAY ALL BOATS is a doughty yarn of a stale Navy Captain’s esteem for his ship and crew. Jeff Chandler does a beautiful job as Jeb Hawk Captain of the troop assault ship the APA-22, known as the Belinda. Hawk is a primitive destroyer commander that takes philosophize of a newly built ship and an almost totally original crew and starts good off teaching the “Navy Design” of doing things good. The movie is elephantine of radiant characters each interacting to the racy final sea battle ending. This movie is a broad procedure to exhaust a rainy Saturday afternoon.

It is easy to call “Negima!” the anime equivalent of Harry Potter, but it objective isn’t so. You have two young boys who can do magic, and there the similarities kill. Harry Potter was never chased around romantically by thirty-one junior high school girls each trying to remove a kiss. With Adore Hina creator Ken Akamatsu at the helm you know you are in for a estimable time.

You have to accumulate this basic premise of “Negima!” before you can like the series. Negi Springfield is a ten-year-old wizard-in-training from Wales, with dreams of becoming the Magister Magi (Master Mage) . In the meantime, he has been hired as an English teacher for the Mahora Girls Academy in Japan, as well as being the homeroom teacher for class 2-A. The Mahora Girls Academy is not all it seems at first, as its students include vampires, ghosts and robots, although all the normal students never seem to scrutinize this. Of course, all the girls form crushes on the cute 10-year primitive, and hijinks ensue.

The “Negima!” entertaining series follows the first volumes of the silly for the most section, and then suddenly veers away. The reason for this is that the anime eventually out-paced the comical, and so a modern storyline was invented. This storyline, showing up around episode 19 or so, is quite different from the amusing and might advance as a shock to some. However, it is very well-handled, and I devour having two versions of the tale.

This third boxset is essentially a re-release of the recent “Viridian Collection,” and is a stripped down and less expensive version of the series, presented in slim cases and without extra features. I personally really be pleased the thin cases, as it takes up less region in my ever-increasing DVD collection. The only trusty incompatibility between this Viridian release and the previous one is the veil art, and an additional five minutes of running time, 630 minutes instead of 625 minutes. And it is cheaper!

All three box sets have revised and re-drawn animation, as the animation from the fresh TV release in Japan was notoriously bad. The racy series is also considerable more “family-friendly” than the humorous. Most of the fan-service is implied rather than directly shown, so if you only read “Negima!” for the panties you might be a shrimp disappointed. The English-language script takes the “family apt” arrive even further, and is slightly different from the Japanese. Many of the “double entendres” and sexual humor has been removed.

And while I am not usually a fan of dubbing, a special roar out needs to be done here for Funimation’s English-language cast. They have done a grand job, even going so far as to give Negi a Welsh accent. This is one case where they might be better than the Japanese fresh cast. Listening to the “Native Speaking” Negi doing English dictation during his English classes is graceful humorous.

Negi Springfield is often touted as Japan’s retort to Harry Potter, although in personality he’s a bit more like Hermione.

And while the wizard prodigy isn’t quite shown to his fat potential in the anime adaptation “Negima,” where stretches of fluffy harem comedy are speckled with serious magic and action. While it starts slowly and relies too heavily on semi-nudity and slapsticky antics, the more wizardly adventures extinguish up keeping it worth watching.

Middle-school student Asuna is desperately hoping that her crush, Professor Takahata, will be teaching homeroom at Mahora Academy this year… and her mood is further soured by a preteen boy who tells her, “Not everyone can be lucky in cherish.”

Turns out the boy, a Welsh prodigy named Negi Springfield, IS the current teacher. Most of the girls immediately cherish him, but Asuna is wrathful by Negi’s “weirdness” — when she glimpses him magically saving a student, his secret comes out: Negi is a wizard, and if Asuna reveals his secret he’ll be turned into an ermine. Fortunately, Asuna agrees to withhold his secret… if he makes a savor potion for her, with predictably chaotic results.

And soon Negi is faced by a creature from his family past — a vampiric student who is clear to drain his blood. And he has to deal with myriad other troubles — web idols, vicious volleyball teams, kiss contests, spying cheerleaders, a alarmed ghost, and a scheming ermine. And when Negi’s job hangs on his class’s bottom-of-the-barrel test scores, Asuna organizes a walk to the mysterious Library Island to gather a magical book that can originate even the Dummy Force shimmering!

But things engage a gloomy turn approach the slay of the series — a hump to Kyoto goes awry when Konoka is threatened, and the mysterious sword-wielding Setsuna reveals her apt identity. And upon returning, Asuna becomes increasingly ill — leading Negi to see a horrifying secret in her past, which links the doomed girl to his vanished father.

Ken Akamatsu’s novel manga is sparkling worthy balanced out — fragment of it is slam-bang magic’n'action, while the other piece is kooky romantic comedy and crazy slapstick. And for the anime, “Negima” serves up an incredibly heavy dose of the kooky comedy/crazy slapstick, with an emphasis on busts, robots, superpowered kicks, ninjas and the occasional skyscraper-sized demon.

In fact many episodes are nothing but unpleasant Negi getting swamped by his high-spirited students and the devious ermine Chamo’s manipulations (which involve awkward kissing) . Lots of skimpy clothes, confessions of fancy, maintain panties and kooky dialogue (“Side effects may include dry mouth, nausea and loss of about a million brain cells…”) . It’s like an amped-up romantic sitcom with some magical trappings.

While the comedic stories are fun in a disposable method, what makes the series truly watchable is the magic-oriented episodes — aerial battles with runt blonde vampires and playing trip with a giant stone golem amongst them. The waste of the series is when the magical adventures really catch front-and-center: though the whole accelerate to Kyoto rushes by arrangement too expeditiously, the final bittersweet arc is nothing short of shiny.

It’s icky to witness teenage girls pursuing a ten-year-old, but Negi is a likable tiny hero — he’s earnest, unselfish, and completely devoted to his students even if they’re insane. Asuna is his opposite — brash, sullen, unexpectedly warmhearted — and serves as a mildly violent big-sister type, although their roles unexpectedly switch approach the finale.

Surprisingly the rest of the cast plenty of fleshing-out as well — sweet Konoka, mysterious Setsuna, the antisocial web idol Chisame (“This is CHIU’s world and all you bimbos are mere tenants!”), aloof ninja Kaede, and the loopy princess Ayaka (who has a surprisingly tragic past) . Most memorable is the prepubescent vampire-mage Evangeline (“It’s enough to execute ANYONE CRAZY!”), and her cat-loving robot Chachamaru.

The complete “Negima” season is a bit too heavy on the fluffy comedy, and too light on the magical adventures. But it’s detached worth watching for those who need a bit more Magorum magic.

The day the film version of “A Chorus Line” opened across the country, director Richard Attenborough was interviewed by Jane Pauley on the Today Note. “And what’s this film really about? ” asked Jane. Sir Richard answered, “It’s about kids trying to rupture into expose business.”

And there you have everything that’s just and bad about the film. Some have enjoyed this film (as you can notice from some of the other reviews), and even been inspired by the inside ogle at young professionals trying to perform it to the top, or even fair gain in the door. I’m very delighted for them.

The only plight is, that’s NOT what A Chorus Line is about – at least the Pulitzer prize winning stage musical conceived by the tedious Michel Bennett. And if the movie’s director is that far off outrageous, well what you destroy up with is confusing series of characters and stories that don’t seem to have a lot of point to them, other than all these folks are auditioning together one afternoon.

Kids breaking into reveal business? No, A Chorus Line is (was) about top-of-their-career professional dancers trying to score one more lousy job to hold food on the table and injuries at bay, letting them work one more year. And asking the demand “Is it really worth the physical afflict, humiliation, and invisibility? ” Most had already let go of the dream of being a star – that would have happened by now if it was in the cards. No they were dancers – but what did that mean?

Although the creators opinion they were putting a project together in workshop that would appeal only to the Broadway community – audiences strongly identified with the dancer’s stories. The audition became a metaphor for any space where people are treated as interchangeable commodities, whether its on a stage, in an office, or in a factory. We’re all “on the line”.

It’s this core that is missing from the film. The stage musical has three pivotal group numbers: the opening “I Hope I Catch It”, “Montage”, and “What I Did For Appreciate”. The rest are individual character songs. (The approved number “One”, is really outside the residence, more of a curtain call than a book number.) “What I Did for Esteem” is practically the emotional climax of the expose – the dancers reaching for an retort to the inevitable ask of “why do this? ” In the film, however, it’s a worship ballad for Cassie, musing over her extinct adore for Zach. On stage, the heart of the display is “Montage”, a single musical number about 15 to 20 minutes long takes the characters stories from the injure and wonder of childhood related in the first half, through puberty, and into young adulthood. It contains the song “Hello Twelve, Hello Thirteen”, as well as several other themes. It’s not in the movie – replaced with a fresh (and remarkable less ambitious) song “Surprise”. That leaves only the opening number, which thankfully is tranquil there. Unfortunately it pails in comparison to Bob Fosse’s “appropriation” of the notion that he old to initiate his film “All That Jazz” in 1980.

With the major themes shuffled off to the background, what you are left with is the dancer’s shimmering stories, and the Cassie / Zach failed cherish affair melodrama pushed to the fore. The fancy yarn isn’t any more compelling here than it was on Broadway, where Bennett wisely kept it in the background, only using to add an extra layer of tension to the proceedings. But it is friendly to peep the individual dancer’s stories and songs can peaceful notice in the film. The leisurely Greg Burge is riveting in what, on Broadway, was the shrimp role of Ritchie. The film gives him his believe number, the aforementioned “Surprise”. Michael Blevins is sweet as the young Notice, experiencing his first audition. Janet Jones lights up the veil in the small allotment of Judy, demonstrating why she was the sole newcomer to go on to other films (and to marry star hockey player Wayne Gretzky) . Broadway broken-down Terence Mann (Cats, Les Miserables, Man of La Mancha) is memorable in the runt allotment of Larry, the assistant choreographer with a heart of gold. Cameron English gives a heartfelt rendition of what is probably the greatest fragment of writing in the canon of American musicals: Nicholas Dante’s memoir of Paul, the young blissful dancer who’s family disowned him after seeing him invent in a rush reveal.

Others don’t fare as well, however. Audrey Landers is exactly the Despicable type of vixenish actress to play Ms. Dance-Ten, Looks-Three. The song comes off as shameful and slutty. It only worked on stage because these repulsive things were coming out of the mouth of a tiny blond Drew Barrymore look-alike in disarming pigtails. And Alyson Reed, a astounding dancer, doesn’t really register as Cassie. Perhaps if a star had been achieve in the fragment, it would have justified all the extra veil time devoted to Cassie’s chorus girl to star to chorus girl legend. But Alyson doesn’t have the lawful charisma or face for the camera. Choreography was handed over to Jeffery Hornady, who was the man of the moment after the success of his Flashdance numbers. Sizable mistake. Obviously Mr. Hornaday had never view a Broadway expose, for the dances peer like outtakes from a Wham! video.

So there you have it – add this one to the list of landmark Broadway musicals butchered on film, along side Gypsy, A Minute Night Music, and Man of La Mancha. Maybe someone can convince Chicago film director Win Marshall to give us a television version of Chorus Line? It really deserves a do-over.

Back stage note: When Universal studios bought the rights to Chorus Line in 1976, they also hired Michael Bennett as producer (and implicitly as director) . Michael spent over a year and a half working on various versions of the screenplay, but eventually got tired of “taking meetings” and left LA for Fresh York where he went to work on Dream Girls. One conception for the movie was to recede from the fresh setting and perform it about dancers auditioning for the film version of “Chorus Line”. He had already approached two hot newcomers to participate. He wanted Mikhail Baryshnikov as Zach, and in a gender switch, Saturday Night Fever star John Travolta in Cassie role. Already that sounds like a more curious movie.

Good Lord, where do I commence?

I’ve held out seeing this “film” because I’ve seen the Broadway production, as well as a worn-out unlit and white beta-video version of the current cast, and I’m jumpy puny was left of the fresh in this “cloak version”. I also have a anecdote in my head told to me by an acting teacher who saw the new production at The Public in NY before it moved to Broadway. He told me he’d seen it with a friend and both walked around the Village, down to the Financial District and then home to 46th Street in silence because they’d been so moved by what they saw.

The film version is a profitable example of what too considerable success can do to something. As other people have suggested – it might have been better to film the stage version, or better yet compose a documentary about the ground breaking “work-shopping” the demonstrate went through in development. It revolutionzed the plan plays and musicals were conceived.

I don’t mean to diminish the talent of any cast member, (well… I could have done without Judy Landers – too definite a choice, and a dinky too clumsy a performance, as well as Mr. Boring-Hollywood himself, Michael Douglas) as they all, of course, suited dancers and singers – I judge some were pulled from the Broadway cast. I liked the actress who plays Cassie very great, but I didn’t like Michael Douglas, and I really hated the fact that they chose to focus on the “Appreciate Memoir” of Zach & Cassie. Accept over it! It was an unbalanced relationship! They probably would be at each others throats during the rehearsals for the demonstrate Zach is directing, and when the prove ends I imagine Cassie saying to Sheila (her original best friend) “Thank God THAT’S over! I mean… ZACH! WHAT WAS I THINKING?!”

Other reviews have captured a lot of things I could say. If you like this film – more power to you, but know if you notice it that it is SO not what the modern was. The stage indicate came at a time when Broadway was in a meander, and some of the themes; homosexuality, sexual experimentation, plastic surgery, etc. were topics that existed but were detached were very taboo, and qualified of ghastly a 70’s audience. It had more relevance aid then, because it seemed that the dancers’ pickle was a metaphor for “Broadway” itself… what do you do when this is all over? There was unexcited some romance in being a “Broadway Dancer”. Currently Broadway seems to be nothing but revivals and corporate sponsored “machine musicals” that will form money no matter what.

Try to behold a touring version, or pick up the play and read in conjuntion with the current cast recording.

I have seen the entire series and it is one of my favorites, ranking suitable up there with EVA and Cowboy Bebop. It’s very easy to give too remarkable of the memoir away, but basically pretend you are playing a MMORPG one day, and you go to logout, but can’t. That’s the launch of the memoir for Tsukasa. However it develops a large deal from there and is never insensible, a downfall of many series. I couldn’t wait to ogle the next episode, and I had to limit myself to watching one a day to sustain myself from blowing through it in a weekend.

The storyline overall is serious and dramatic, but not excessively. There is no sappy high school lovestory to suffer through, no horribly shallow characters. If you liked Lain, EVA, and Cowboy Bebop, I believe you will like this one to. Subaru is by far my popular character, while all the others are well done and fit in their roles nicely. The animation is very grand.

The music gets it’s bear paragraph. It’s simply outstanding. I often found myself ignoring the dialogue unbiased to listen to incredible songs like “Counterfeit Wings”. That soundtrack included with this area will not objective be a filler I promise you.

I don’t do many reviews but I felt I fair had to for this one. Many people probably haven’t heard of this one yet and aren’t obvious if they would like it. This is an outstanding series and this box status looks like a tremendous deal.

I heard of .hack from Cartoon Network, pre-debut and got very furious. An anime that takes residence in an MMORPG (mass multiplayer online role playing game)? This sounds like a really expansive concept! I was further glad to gather it had a proper twist to it, and not objective staged within the game. Tsukasa, our ‘hero’, can’t log out of the game for some reason, and has lost his body to the game. The World, the game everyone’s playing in this anime, is a heavenly world displayed with wonderful artwork. It’s however not enough to have the visual execute however. The music, done by someone Yuki Kajiura, someone ive never heard of before but rivals Yoko Kanno herself, is extraordinary and makes the soundtrack alone worth holding succor on getting that last DVD of Cowboy Bebop. The only reason i can’t give it 5 stars is because the character do so far doesn’t seem to be going very far. That doesn’t mean it’s not an improbable series, cause it is! I contemplate it honest needs a bit more time. Perhaps by the 3rd dvd things will heat up. The package comes with a box for all your .hack dvds, a soundtrack with 19 tracks, 2 postcards, one sheet of stickers, a Grunty doll (coolest stuffed animal ive ever seen), a .hack t-shirt (XL) and the DVD with the first 5 episodes dubbed OR subbed. Not terrible at all if you ask me. The dvd, soundtrack, and t-shirt should be worth over $(…) as it is, so there’s no questioning the value, and contain me I’ve checked: Amazon(.com) has it the cheapest. Places like discountanimedvd have it marked for at least 53. Seize away shipping as well cause you can accumulate it free here, and you’re saving around $(…) by buying it through amazon.(com) Not awful if you ask me. I cant wait to watch more.
